PROF JONATHAN MOORE
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon & Clinical Director

Professor Jonathan Moore is a highly accomplished, respected Ophthalmologist and the Clinical Director of Cathedral Eye Clinic, Belfast. Specialising in Ocular Surface Reconstruction, Laser and Lens based Refractive Surgery, Cataract and other Intra-Ocular Eye Surgery. With extensive expertise in his field, he has dedicated his career to providing exceptional eye care and contributing to the advancement of Ophthalmology.

  • Professor Moore's outstanding reputation is not only based on his clinical accomplishments but also on his significant involvement in medico-legal work. Having been actively involved in medico-legal work for several years, Professor Moore has provided over 50 medico-legal reports. As a Bond Solon trained expert witness, he possesses the necessary skills to provide impartial evidence, effectively bridging the gap between medicine and the legal system.

    In addition to his medico-legal work, Professor Moore has made significant contributions to the academic field of Ophthalmology. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, authored a book on Ophthalmology and contributed chapters to several other publications. He currently serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (JCRS) Online Case Reports.

    Professor Moore’s current research interests revolve around the development of robotic eye surgery and the application of artificial intelligence in predicting cataract success through improved biometry and other outcomes. His research partners include prestigious institutions such as Queen's University Belfast, Ulster University, and Aston University.

    Professor Moore's commitment to education is evident through his involvement in the development of the online PGDip/MSc Cataract and Refractive Surgery course at the University of Ulster. Designed to train Surgeons, Optometrists, and Laser Technicians worldwide in the intricacies of Laser and Refractive Cataract Surgery. Furthermore, he holds the position of Honorary Professor in the College of Health and Life Sciences at Aston University until 2026.

    Professor Moore is currently a visiting Professor at Tianjin Medical University Eye Hospital in Tianjin, China, as well as being actively involved with charitable organisations such as the Khmer Sight Foundation in Cambodia and the Christian Blind Mission in Zimbabwe, providing vital eye care and contributing to the improvement of global eye health.

JANICE MCCRUDDEN

Janice is a Bond Solon trained Expert Witness with over 20 yrs experience working in professional regulation. Janice is an IP qualified Optometrist and Fellow of the College of Optometrists.  She has a demonstrable history of working in the hospital eye service, primary care and health care industry. Skilled in medical education and coaching with a strong clinical background, but also extensive experience as a commissioner for eye services and clinical adviser to NHS bodies and alike. She has specialist interests in medical retina, dry eye, pediatrics, record keeping and practice governance who acts regularly as an expert witness in civil and professional regulatory matters, preparing reports and appearing in proceedings as necessary.
